Dr. Michael Hotchkis

Dr. Michael Hotchkis is Principal Research Scientist at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), and has played a leading role in the development of Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) at ANSTO since the establishment of such facilities in the 1990s.

AMS techniques are very valuable with regards to the measurement and characterisation of radioactive backgrounds inherent in the materials from which dark-matter detectors are made, since such backgrounds influence our ability to measure any true dark-matter-related signals.

Thus, Dr. Hotchkis’ work will be very closely tied in to the Centre’s Metrology and Direct Detection programs.

He will contribute to the supervision of post-graduate students, and the mentorship of post-doctoral staff. As ANSTO, and its accelerator facilities in particular, are host to many school-age visitors, this will provide an excellent opportunity to communicate to those students the work being undertaken by the CDMPP.

Home institution: ANSTO.
